This week we are focusing on TRS itself. The following links should tell you everything you ever wanted to know about TRS! This will require some serious reading, but we think it’s worth everyone’s time and energy. We need to make one correction in how the TRS system is funded. In the first week of Pension 101, we said that TRS is funded in 3 ways: member contributions, employer contributions, and state contributions. We said that the employer contribution is much higher than it actually is (so sorry!). It is actually, at this point in time, .58 percent per employee. We also neglected to mention that TRS funding has a fourth, important, component – that is investment income. You can find more about this in the online booklet created by TRS. The link to that booklet follows, plus other important links for this week! (Any questions? Can’t make the links work? Suggestions? Feedback? E-mail us or call us at (708)383-2035.)
